| If I want to make frequent trips, and they
are all less than 30 days, what plan should I
consider? Patriot Executive – Annual plan would be the best choice. You can take as many trips as you want each year, but each one of them must be less than 30 days. |
| If I purchase two (2) plans—one for trip
cancellation/interruption and one IMG medical plan —how do
they determine which medical benefit coverage would pay
first? If the trip protection plan purchased is secondary health coverage then IMGSM would be the primary health coverage in this case and pay as the primary provider. |
| What plans are available? The plans available at International Medical GroupSM (or IMG) include:

  |
| I am leaving for a trip that will last 19
days. Can a Patriot plan be issued for 19 days? Yes —PatriotSM plans can be issued on
a per-day basis for any trip length from 10 days up to one
year. The minimum premium is for 10 days. So if your trip
is only 7 days you will be charged the premium for a 10
day trip and you will be covered for 10 days. |
| Do IMG products offer home country coverage
to US citizens? The Patriot InternationalSM and ExPatriot PlusSM plans will allow US citizens to purchase an additional 1-month's coverage after you have been outside of the US for a minimum of 6 months. The additional 1-month's coverage will cover you while you are back in the US for a minimum of 6 months for the balance of the policy year upon your return. You will not be allowed to renew the Global plan if you are not going to leave the US for a minimum of 6 months in the 2nd policy year. |
| What plan is best suited for the US citizen
that travels overseas frequently during a year? If you make frequent trips less than 30 days each trip, the Patriot Executive is best suited for you. The Patriot Executive Annual Plan allows you to take as many trips as you want each year, but all must be less than 30 days in duration. If you make frequent trips all undeterminable lengths (can be in excess of 30 days) throughout the year, the best option would be to purchase the Patriot International plan each time you go on a trip. (The Patriot International plan is only good for one trip.) |
| How long prior to a trip can someone purchase
a Patriot plan? There really isn't a window prior to the departure that consumers must be within. You can purchase your plan as far ahead of your departure date as you want. However, your coverage won't be effective until you leave the country and you must pay the applicable premium at the time of application. |
| I am going to be gone for 6 months for sure
but may extend my stay overseas. Which plan should I
use? The ExPatriot Plan (for US citizens) and (for non-US citizens) is the most cost efficient for trips of 3 months or longer. At the end of your 6 month policy you will have the option to renew the policy for up to another 12 months. The policy is renewable for up to 2 years aggregate total. |
| I want to purchase Global Medical policy for
myself, my wife and my child. My wife is currently pregnant.
Can she be included on the policy and what maternity benefits
are available? A pregnant woman cannot be included on a Global Medical policy. However, she and the baby can be added after the birth of the child after completing the necessary application. Maternity benefits are available after the policy has been in force for 12 continuous months. Note: If a pregnant woman still desires coverage for non-maternity related coverage, she could apply for and be issued a Patriot policy to cover her until the baby is born and then apply to be added to the Global policy. |
| I need coverage for a group that is
traveling overseas. Which plan is best for us? The Patriot Group Travel plan would be the best. This is the same coverage as the Patriot individual plans but is issued on a "group" basis. Each member will receive an individual ID card but will not receive a "policy." The master policy will be sent to the tour leader. All members must have the same maximum of coverage and deductible. |
| My parents are visiting me from overseas for
a period of time. Can I purchase an IMG plan for
them? Yes—depending on their length of stay you could purchase either a Patriot America or ExPatriot Plus plan. For stays less than 6 months the Patriot America would be the plan to use. The fact that you are foreign nationals already in the US does not preclude them from purchasing coverage. |
| What is IMG's refund
policy? IMGSM will always refund the policy premium if the policy was cancelled by the insured prior to the effective date...regardless of the situation. The request needs to be given in writing (email is fine), as to the circumstances the policy is being cancelled. You will not be refunded any premiums once the trip has been started. |
| Must I be employed by a corporation in order
to be covered by the Patriot Executive plan? No, you do not have to be employed by a corporation to be eligible. However, you must be a US citizen, age 64 or under, and be covered by an individual or group medical plan while in the United States. |
| Does IMG provide a listing of hospitals or
care facilities in the area I am traveling to? IMG does not provide a list, but the information is available. Call 1-800-628-4664 (US/Canada) or call Collect at 317-655-4500. This information will be included with the policy and the ID card as well. |
| If I make frequent trips, and they are all
undeterminable in lengths – some can be in excess of 30 days,
what plan should I chose? You should chose Patriot International – But considering that you are unsure about the length of the trips, purchase of a new plan for each new trip would be necessary, due to the fact that Patriot International is only valid for one trip at the time. |
| If I order a policy and request it to be
overnighted, will I receive that policy the next
day? It takes 24-48 hours to process a policy. Once your policy is processed it will be sent overnight if you chose the overnight option during the purchase process and paid the US$20.00 surcharge. |
| I would like to purchase the "End of Trip
Home Country Coverage." There is not an option to input this
online. How do you add this option for a policy? If you are purchasing a plan for more than 6 months, you would add the extra month to how many months you are traveling: i.e. for 6 months of actual travel outside country of citizenship + 1 month of End of Trip Home Country Coverage, you would purchase actual 7 months of coverage—no other verification is required. If purchasing 12 months and need extra month of coverage, the Call Center will have to notify IMGSM to verify 13th month of coverage. IMG will bill for extra month—make sure credit card information is available when calling IMG for the 13th month. |
| Can I use the "Two Week Incidental Home
Country Coverage" at the very beginning of my coverage or when
I return back to my country at the end of my trip? The policy does not provide coverage until you have left your country of citizenship. You must have left your country of citizenship for at least 48 hours before returning home to use the "Two Week Incidental Home Country Coverage." The 2 weeks must be during your policy period and you must be resuming your trip outside your Country of Citizenship. Coverage is not provided in your Country of Citizenship at
the end of your trip. |
| If I'm traveling alone and should need
emergency medical evacuation, BUT I am unconscious and my
medical evacuation is arranged by someone other than IMG, will
I be reimbursed? Evacuation coverage MUST be coordinated by IMGSM for it to be a covered benefit. We strongly suggest that the insured carries the policy ID card or insurance information on their person at all times. If a person is traveling alone and should need to be medically evacuated, attending persons will normally find the information on the insured and contact IMG. |
| I’m hesitant to put my credit card number on
the Web. Is it safe? All personally identifiable information, (including credit card information) is securely protected by using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) 128-bit encryption, the strongest encryption technology currently available. VeriSign, the world’s leading provider of internet trust services, provides the digital certificate enabling SSL encryption. Furthermore, we have implemented strict policy guidelines to safeguard the privacy of your personally identifiable and financial information from authorized access or improper use, and we will continue to enhance our security procedures as new technology becomes available. |
| What is the age limit for dependent
children? A dependent child is your child shown on the Enrollment Form under 18 years of age, traveling with you, and for whom premium has been paid. |
| Do I have to have primary health insurance
to be covered by your insurance? While having primary insurance is not an eligibility requirement for most plans at IMG, the IMG Patriot Executive Does require applicants to have primary health insurance in order to be eligible for coverage. |
| Does a pre-certification need to be done
with for non-emergency treatments? NO. Only with major medical treatments and surgery is to be done…ie: CAT Scans, and X-rays. Pre-certification does not need to be completed if seeing a doctor due to minor incidents. |
| Can I purchase this plan on
line? YES. Click here to purchase |
| I am confused about the "co-pay" and
"co-insurance" with IMG. Is the out-of-pocket 20% calculated
before or after the deductible? IMG requires that you pay 20% percent of the first $5000 in medical expenses (for visitors to the US & Canada only) after the deductible (same as "excess") is met. For example: You have a serious accident in the US that requires hospitalization for a week. The hospital bill is $10,000. If you have a $100 deductible then you would pay $100 (leaving $9,900 to be paid) and then you would have to pay 20% of the next $5000 which = $1000 (max out-of-pocket with $100 deductible =$1100). IMG would pay the remaining $8,900. |
| My wife and I are traveling overseas to
adopt a child. What medical insurance is available for us and
can you also provide coverage for the adopted
child? Medical insurance coverage is readily available for you and your wife through either the Patriot Travel Medical Insurance plans or the many Travel Protection plans you will find on our website. Coverage for the child is a little more challenging as the
coverage start date requested is typically while the child is
still in their country of citizenship. Many adoptive parents
assume full responsibility for the child but remain in the
adoptive child's country of citizenship for a week or two
while adoption paperwork is officially approved and
recorded. The child will eventually be covered under the
parents domestic healthcare plan but usually not until they
have returned to their adoptive parent's home country.
For this situation we recommend you call one of our
                  licensed agents for assistance. |
